Same-Day Dentistry in West Orange, NJ
At Suburban Essex Dental, we deliver true same-day dentistry — not a marketing claim, but a working clinical reality made possible by one of the most complete digital dentistry setups in northern New Jersey. Many of the procedures that traditionally require two, three, or even four appointments at other offices are completed start-to-finish in a single visit at our West Orange practice.
Dr. Paul R. Feldman, DMD, FAGD, FICOI has been delivering advanced dentistry to the West Orange community since 1984, continuing a family practice founded by his father in 1943. He has been named an NJ Monthly Top Dentist for over 15 consecutive years and carries Fellowships in both the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI).

What “Same-Day Dentistry” Actually Means
The term “same-day dentistry” is used loosely across the industry. At some offices, it means a same-day emergency visit. At others, it means a same-day temporary while you wait weeks for a permanent restoration from an outside lab. At Suburban Essex Dental, same-day dentistry means walking out of our West Orange office at the end of a single appointment with a fully finished, permanently bonded restoration — no temporary, no second visit, no waiting on a lab.
This is possible because we own and operate the complete digital workflow in-house: a digital intraoral scanner replaces the messy impression tray, design software replaces the manual wax-up, and a precision milling unit or 3D printer fabricates the final restoration while you relax in the operatory.
The Digital Technology That Makes It Possible
Same-day dentistry is only as good as the technology behind it. Our office is equipped with one of the most comprehensive digital setups of any general dental practice in Essex County:
- Shining 3D Aoralscan — a high-speed, powder-free intraoral scanner that captures your teeth in three dimensions in just a few minutes, with no goopy impression material.
- Planmeca milling unit — a chairside mill that carves your final crown, onlay, or veneer from a solid block of high-strength ceramic while you wait, typically in 15 to 20 minutes.
- Formlabs and SprintRay 3D printers — used to produce surgical guides, night guards, retainers, models, and provisional restorations on demand.
- Cone Beam CT (CBCT) and digital X-rays — low-radiation 3D imaging that lets us plan implants, evaluate roots, and diagnose pathology with a level of detail traditional 2D X-rays cannot match.
Owning every link in the chain — scanner, design software, mill, printers, and imaging — is what separates a true same-day practice from one that just offers a same-day appointment.
Procedures We Complete in a Single Visit
Depending on the clinical situation, the following are commonly delivered as one-visit treatments at our West Orange office:
- Same-day crowns — full-coverage ceramic crowns designed, milled, and bonded in a single appointment.
- Same-day onlays and inlays — conservative partial-coverage restorations for moderately damaged teeth.
- Same-day veneers — thin ceramic facings for cosmetic correction of front teeth, in selected cases.
- Custom night guards and athletic mouthguards — 3D printed from a digital scan, typically ready the same day or the next.
- Clear retainers and Essix-style appliances — printed in-house without an outside lab.
- Implant surgical guides — designed from your CBCT scan for predictable, minimally invasive implant placement.
- Denture and partial repairs — many fractures, broken clasps, and tooth additions handled the same day.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Same-Day Treatment?
Same-day dentistry is appropriate for the majority of routine restorative cases, including cracked or fractured teeth, large or failing old fillings, single-tooth crowns, and patients who simply cannot afford to take time off for multiple appointments. More complex cases — full-mouth reconstruction, implant placement with delayed loading, or extensive cosmetic redesigns — may still require staged care, but even those treatment plans benefit from our digital workflow.
If you are not sure whether your situation qualifies, the simplest path is a consultation. Dr. Feldman will scan, image, and evaluate your case and give you a clear, honest answer the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Dentistry
What can actually be completed in one visit?
Crowns, onlays, inlays, many veneers, night guards, clear retainers, implant surgical guides, and most denture repairs can typically be designed, fabricated, and delivered in a single appointment at our West Orange office.
How long does a same-day crown appointment take?
A typical same-day crown appointment runs about 90 minutes to two hours from start to finish, including the digital scan, milling, and bonding of the final crown. You can usually return to normal activities right after.
Is a same-day crown as strong as a lab-made crown?
Yes. The high-strength ceramic blocks we mill in-house are the same materials used by outside dental labs, and the digital fit is often more precise than a traditional impression. Our same-day crowns are intended to be permanent restorations.
Do you use CEREC?
No. We use a Planmeca chairside milling unit, which is a competing system to CEREC. The clinical outcome — a permanent, all-ceramic crown delivered in one visit — is comparable, but we have chosen the Planmeca workflow because it integrates well with our other digital tools.
Can you do a same-day root canal and crown together?
In many cases, yes. If a tooth needs a root canal and a crown, Dr. Feldman can often complete the root canal and deliver a final milled crown in the same appointment, eliminating the temporary stage.
How much does a same-day crown cost compared to a traditional crown?
The fee for a same-day crown at our office is typically comparable to a traditional lab-fabricated crown. You receive a written estimate before any work begins. We accept most PPO dental insurance plans and offer CareCredit financing.
Schedule Your Same-Day Consultation
If you have a cracked tooth, a failing crown, an old silver filling that’s giving you trouble, or you simply want a smile refresh without multiple weeks of dental appointments, we would be glad to see you. Most consultations include a digital scan and a clear written treatment plan before you leave.
