Are Invisalign Clear Aligners Right for Me?

Thinking of getting dental braces? You must have heard of Invisalign clear aligners. This innovative new alternative to dental braces is virtually invisible and not permanently fixed to your teeth. You can wear it and take it off with ease as you need. It can restore your smile and give you back your confidence without the discomfort and occasional embarrassment associated with traditional braces. But, are they the right treatment option for you? Let’s check out some facts.

What are Invisalign clear aligners?

Clear aligners are dental devices you can wear on your teeth to make them move to the desired position little by little over time. Invisalign clear aligners are made using SmartTrack material, an innovative multilayer and colorless polymer developed and patented by Invisalign. They apply gentle and constant force on your teeth, improve the control of your tooth movement, fit snugly around your teeth, and are almost invisible. Since they are not permanently attached to your teeth, you can take them off before eating and brushing your teeth.

How do Invisalign aligners work?

This is how Invisalign works. First, your dentist will examine your teeth and decide if you need Invisalign. Once he or she decides Invisalign clear aligners are right for you, he or she will order a record of your teeth, which includes photographs of your teeth and face, one or more digital scans of your teeth, and one or more digital X-rays of your teeth. The clinic then sends these records to the Invisalign lab, where several Invisalign clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth, according to your dentist’s instructions.

In the meantime, your dentist will make a treatment plan. He or she will start the treatment once he or she receives the custom-made clear aligners, which can take – four to five weeks. He or she will start with the first set in the series. You will be required to wear each set of the clear aligner for one to two weeks as prescribed by your dentist. Once your dentist determines the first set of clear aligners have done its job, he or she will replace them with the second set. The process will repeat until all your teeth have moved to the desired position.

Invisalign treatment can take from 12 to 18 months and may require you to use 20 to 50 clear aligners. The result will be so good you will wish you had gotten yourself treated with Invisalign earlier.

What are the benefits of Invisalign aligners?

Invisalign aligners have three main benefits. As mentioned earlier, they are not permanently fixed to your teeth, which means you can take them off and put them back on anytime you want to. This makes eating and brushing your teeth much easier. The second benefit is since they are virtually invisible, they will save you the embarrassment associated with metal braces if you are a shy person. The third benefit is they shorten the treatment time by more than half.

Invisalign clear aligners are highly effective in straightening your teeth and realigning your jawline. If you are willing to invest some money in restoring your smile to its former glory, then this innovative new tooth-align technology is for you.
